Why Planning a Holiday Feels So Overwhelming (And What You Can Do About It)

Planning a holiday is supposed to be the fun part.

It's where you start picturing yourself wandering through little streets in Italy, sipping cocktails by the pool in Bali, or finally ticking that dream destination off your bucket list.

But somewhere between opening your first browser tab and your 47th, the excitement disappears.

Suddenly you're comparing flights, reading hotel reviews, trying to work out whether it's better to stay here or there, wondering if you need a visa, checking baggage allowances... and before you know it, you've spent three hours researching and you're somehow even more confused than when you started.

If that sounds familiar, you're definitely not the only one.

There is just... too much information

Years ago, planning a holiday was pretty straightforward.

Now? There are hundreds of hotels, thousands of flight combinations, endless blogs, YouTube videos, Facebook groups, TikToks and reviews, all telling you something different.

One person says a hotel is amazing. The next says it's terrible.

One article tells you to visit a destination in May. Another says October.

Instead of helping, all that information often makes it harder to make a decision.

Then there's real life

Most people aren't planning holidays while lying on the couch with endless free time.

They're squeezing it in after work, between school drop offs, while cooking dinner, or late at night when everyone else has gone to bed.

So what should feel exciting starts feeling like another job on the never ending to do list.

And because holidays aren't cheap, there's also the pressure of getting it right.

No one wants to spend thousands of dollars only to realise they booked the wrong hotel, chose the wrong location or missed something important.

So many choices, so little clarity

I see this all the time.

People spend weeks, sometimes months, researching.

They save Instagram posts.

Bookmark hotels.

Watch YouTube videos.

Read review after review.

Then end up completely stuck because every option looks good... or every option has something wrong with it.

It's decision overload.

And eventually people either stop looking altogether or book something they're not really excited about just so they can move on.

The mental load is real

Planning a holiday isn't just booking flights and hotels.

It's coordinating dates.

Working out budgets.

Making sure everyone wants something different.

Figuring out transfers.

Researching activities.

Checking passports.

Looking into visas.

Making sure you haven't forgotten travel insurance.

It's a lot.

Especially when you're already juggling work, family and everything else life throws at you.

So how do you make it easier?

Start with one question.

What do you actually want from this trip?

Do you want to completely switch off?

Tick somewhere off your bucket list?

Celebrate something special?

Take the kids somewhere they'll never forget?

Once you know what you want the holiday to feel like, the decisions become so much easier.

You don't need to compare every hotel in the destination.

You just need to find the one that's right for you.

Sometimes it helps to have someone in your corner

I love researching travel. (Lucky, because it's my job.)

I spend my days sorting through all the options, comparing hotels, finding the best flight

combinations and putting together itineraries that actually make sense.

That doesn't mean making the decisions for you.

It just means taking away the overwhelm and giving you options that fit what you're actually looking for.

Instead of spending weeks wondering if you're making the right choice, you can spend that time getting excited about your holiday instead.

And honestly... that's how it should feel.

The bottom line

Planning your holiday shouldn't leave you feeling stressed before you've even packed a suitcase.

It should be exciting.

It should be something you look forward to.

So if you've found yourself with twenty browser tabs open, completely overwhelmed by choices and wondering if you're missing something... take comfort in knowing you're not alone.

It happens to almost everyone.

The difference is, you don't have to figure it all out yourself.

Ready to make planning easier?

If you'd rather spend your time looking forward to your holiday instead of researching it for weeks, I'd love to help.

From personalised itineraries to finding the right flights, hotels and experiences, I'll take the overwhelm out of planning so you can get back to the fun part, getting excited for your trip.
